Today, Fort Mose is recognized as a significant local, national, and international historic landmark. Its history is amazing! Founded by freedom seekers who were granted asylum by the Spanish government, it was home to the free black militia who protected Saint Augustine until Spain ceded all of La Florida to England in 1763. The residents once again faced enslavement, but instead abandoned the fort and sought safety in Cuba. Read More
